Shae and friends hike for HeroRATs!

Shae and other students at Nørre Gymnasium in Copenhagen decided to fundraise for charity as part of their CAS project (contributing towards their International Baccalaureate). The team quickly decided that they wanted to raise money for APOPO’s HeroRATs by undertaking a huge 116-kilometer hike from Copenhagen to Malmö. No mean feat at all!

This exhaustingly long hike would last a little over 58 hours, taking the group through some of the country’s most beautiful countryside. They did also have a little fun along the way! Shae and his fellow group members Yousif, Louis, Aria, and Lukas (pictured left to right) set off from Nørre Gymnasium in Copenhagen, and in total, they walked an amazing 150,000 steps each, which is an incredible 750,000 steps in total! Shae and his friends really did show true dedication in their efforts to fundraise for our HeroRATs!

Shae says:

“We knew we wanted to raise money for the HeroRATs and although exhausting, we did have lots of fun too! Early on, we found a shopping cart on the street, and we were delighted as it removed the need for us to carry all of our luggage! We were so pleased to complete the hike and we are so happy to be able to donate to such a worthwhile cause. Easy for me to say now the blisters have healed!”

The team set up a Just Giving page to accept donations and they even created their own unique website so that they could blag about their adventure! The website is brilliant – engaging supporters during their walk, and Shae and friends raised an astonishing €665, which is enough to keep an entire defining team in Cambodia operational for over a day! The team also had great fun raising money for APOPO, which is super important!

Thank you so much Shae, Yousif, Aria and Lukas for your impressive efforts – you have genuinely helped to save lives!
