APOPO is a non-profit organization that harnesses the remarkable sense of smell of scent detection animals to save lives and promote socio-economic development in communities around the world. From detecting landmines to diagnosing tuberculosis, our innovative solutions are transforming humanitarian efforts and improving the lives of people in need.

Role description

As a member of APOPO’s Board of Directors, you will play a crucial role in guiding the strategic direction of the organization, ensuring financial stability, and advancing our mission. We are seeking individuals with diverse backgrounds and expertise, including but not limited to:

  • Fundraising and Development
  • Strategic Planning
  • Non-profit Governance
  • Legal and Compliance
  • Marketing and Communications
  • International Development
  • Public Health

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic guidance and oversight to APOPO’s management team.
  • Actively participate in board meetings, committees, and special projects.
  • Advocate for APOPO’s mission and initiatives within your personal and professional networks.
  • Support fundraising efforts and donor stewardship activities.

Qualifications

  • Passion for APOPO’s mission and values.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in your field.
  • Ability to commit time and energy to board activities, including regular meetings and special events.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience serving on non-profit boards or committees is desirable but not required.

Note that this is a non-remunerated position. The meetings frequently occur online. When conducted in person, the meetings take place in Antwerp, Belgium.
