How We Work

APOPO HeroTREEs operates through a holistic, data-driven approach that integrates training, demonstration, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Training and Knowledge Sharing

We provide practical and theoretical training in Syntropic Agroforestry, empowering farmers with the skills to develop their own productive agroforests. This includes Syntropic Agroforestry design and hands-on experience, ensuring participants gain both knowledge and practical expertise.

Through demonstration plots at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), East Africa’s largest agricultural university, and partnerships with organizations across Tanzania and beyond, we make this knowledge accessible and actionable. Our collaboration with SUA ensures precision and reliability in our approach, drawing on hands-on experience and rigorous academic research.

Community of Practice

Our Community of Practice provides a platform for farmers’ organizations, cooperatives, civil society organizations, research centres, NGOs, policymakers and experts to regularly share new insights and refine agroforestry techniques through collaborative learning. This inclusive community of practice allows farmers to tailor regenerative farming methods to local conditions, making them more effective and scalable.

We facilitate a Community of Practice designed to improve skills, share best practices, and encourage continuous learning. By actively engaging with local communities and agricultural experts, we ensure solutions are co-created and adapted to specific regional needs.

Data-Driven Monitoring and Modeling

Using GIS systems and FarmTree software, we actively track field activities, model long-term impacts, and provide policymakers and researchers with valuable insights. By monitoring tree growth, soil health, and biodiversity, we can identify successful practices and continually improve our methods.

Our partnership with FarmTree enables us to accurately measure and quantify the benefits of Syntropic Agroforestry, from carbon sequestration to economic productivity. This data-driven approach is crucial in proving that degraded systems can be successfully restored and informing policy on sustainable farming.

Innovation Catalyst

HeroTREEs acts as an innovation catalyst in Syntropic Agroforestry. Through rigorous research, collaboration, and continuous improvement, we accelerate the adoption of regenerative practices. Our commitment to data-driven solutions ensures that our training, community of practice, and strategic partnerships effectively scale knowledge and drive lasting impact.

Co-Creation and Strategic Partnerships

We work with partners who have strong ties to agricultural communities, ensuring solutions are developed with the people they are meant to benefit. From grassroots organizations like Mgeta Livelihood Development Foundation (MLDF) to strategic research partnerships, we build capacity and scale solutions effectively.
