Author, Corine Timmer wanted to donate proceeds of her book to our HeroRATs!

Corine Timmer is a renowned writer, living in rural Portugal with nine street dogs and other animals. Her short-form poetry has been published in respected print and web haiku journals and anthologies. During the past five years, her haiku, photo haiku and haiga have won awards. In 2018, 2019 and 2020, she published haiku anthologies in celebration of the Chinese New Year. The books are part of her ongoing Asian zodiac series, the proceeds of which go to charity.

Pictured is APOPO’s Esther Haalboom with a copy of Rattled. The anthology is a stunning book to look at and to read. One of our favourite haiku, by Madhuri Pillai, is: Corine’s website:

Rattled is a compilation of haiku by 53 poets from all over the world. The small print run and high-quality means donations are small —but each book counts. You can buy Rattled online through www.bicadeideias.com

Corine says:

“I’m a big fan of stories (fictional or factual) in which the human species collaborates with non-human species in order to reach a goal. Landmines are an evil invention. Clearing them is important. To team up with rats to make the world a better place is a great story as rats generally have a bad name. From what I can see the APOPO rats are treated well in exchange for their help. They are not exploited. That’s an important element as well for choosing Apopo’s HeroRATs.”

Corine has so far raised €160 for our HeroRATs through the sales of Rattled. What an incredibly creative way to raise money! Thank you, Corine!

With your support, we can clear landmines, detect tuberculosis, and save lives. You can donate monthly, yearly, or one single time.
