Morogoro, Tanzania, April 2, 2026 — APOPO is pleased to announce that it has received £800,000 in funding from the Postcode Global Trust, made possible by the generosity of Postcode Lottery players.

The funding will support APOPO’s mission to develop and deploy innovative detection animals that save lives and improve livelihoods around the world. Through its mine action, tuberculosis detection, wildlife conservation, and humanitarian innovation programs, APOPO continues to provide practical, evidence-based solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

Flexible funding from the Postcode Global Trust enables APOPO to invest where it is needed most — supporting ongoing operations, advancing research and innovation, strengthening organizational capacity, and responding to emerging humanitarian needs.

“We are incredibly grateful to Postcode Lottery players for their continued support,” said Christophe Cox, CEO of APOPO. “This generous contribution allows us to continue expanding our impact, from helping communities reclaim land contaminated by landmines to improving tuberculosis detection and developing new humanitarian innovations. On behalf of everyone at APOPO and the communities we serve, thank you.”

The award comes as Postcode Lottery continues to celebrate the extraordinary impact of its players. In 2025, players across the United Kingdom and Europe helped raise more than €1 billion for charities in a single year, contributing to an all-time total of more than €15 billion raised for good causes. In the UK alone, £236.9 million was raised during the year for thousands of charities and community organizations.

Since 2014, players of Postcode Lottery have raised over £8,469,421 for APOPO, awarded by Postcode Global Trust — funding that has directly enabled the extensive, life-saving impact we’ve been able to achieve. This support has been a beacon of hope for communities affected by landmines and tuberculosis, and has helped APOPO expand into new areas of work, including wildlife detection and search-and-rescue research.

Thanks to this player support, APOPO has cleared over 170,000 landmines and other explosive remnants of war (ERWs) in countries like Angola, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, and Zimbabwe, rendering impacted areas safe for communities to rebuild and thrive. This funding has also helped APOPO identify tens of thousands of tuberculosis cases that were initially missed, ensuring timely treatment for patients and helping prevent the further spread of the disease. Together, this impact has reached over 2 million people worldwide.

In the area of tuberculosis detection, APOPO’s HeroRATs provide a valuable second-line screening method in regions with limited healthcare resources, identifying many cases that traditional tests have missed in Ethiopia and Tanzania.

APOPO's TB detection rats can screen hundreds of sputum samples a day, sniffing out tuberculosis faster than standard microscopy and helping clinics catch missed cases that would otherwise go undiagnosed.

For many years, Postcode Lottery players have helped make APOPO’s work possible through long-term, flexible funding. This sustained support has enabled the organization to innovate, grow, and respond to evolving humanitarian challenges while maintaining its commitment to delivering measurable impact. APOPO is proud to be among the charities supported by Postcode Lottery and looks forward to continuing this valued partnership.

Thank you to every Postcode Lottery player. Your support is helping APOPO save lives by clearing landmines, improving tuberculosis detection, protecting wildlife, and pioneering innovative humanitarian solutions around the world.
