SIEM REAP, Cambodia, May 16, 2026 – Managers from across APOPO’s global programs and support departments gathered in Siem Reap from May 11 to 16 for the 2026 Management Meeting, marking the first time the event has been held in Cambodia.
Held every two years, the Management Meeting provides an opportunity for APOPO leaders to step back from day-to-day operations, review progress, share lessons learned, and work out priorities for the years ahead.
Strengthening Collaboration Across Programs
The week brought together colleagues from mine action, tuberculosis detection, wildlife detection, search & rescue, HeroTREEs, finance, human resources, communications, fundraising, and other support functions.
The meeting was an opportunity for staff from different programs, departments, and countries to share experiences, exchange knowledge, and build stronger connections across APOPO’s global operations. Participants discussed successes, challenges, and lessons learned from their respective areas of work while identifying opportunities for greater collaboration and coordination.
Discussions focused on strategic priorities, operational challenges, and ways to strengthen the systems and processes that support APOPO’s work around the world.

Using Data to Support Better Decision-Making
The group of managers explored ways to improve how information is collected, managed, and shared across APOPO’s programs. Sessions included demonstrations and discussions around digital systems that help teams manage projects, monitor results, and visualize data. These tools support more informed decision-making, improve reporting, and help teams better understand and communicate the impact of their work.
The meeting also included discussions about the potential role and risks of artificial intelligence in organizational development and internal operations as well as how emerging technologies could help improve efficiency, strengthen knowledge sharing, and support staff in their day-to-day work.
Building Innovation Capacity
A dedicated workshop introduced participants to Lean Startup principles, an approach that encourages organizations to test ideas quickly, learn from results, and refine solutions based on evidence rather than assumptions. Through practical exercises and group discussions, the teams looked at ways to apply these concepts within their own teams and programs, with a view to boosting APOPO’s capacity for innovation and continuous improvement.
Learning Together in Cambodia
Hosting the Management Meeting in Cambodia gave everybody a chance to spend time with staff from APOPO’s Cambodia program and gain a deeper understanding of the country’s role in APOPO’s history and ongoing operations.
The week highlighted the value of bringing together people with different expertise, perspectives, and experiences from across APOPO’s global network. By creating space for discussion and collaboration, the meeting helped strengthen relationships between teams and build alignment around shared goals.
As APOPO continues to grow and evolve, opportunities such as the Management Meeting play an important role in ensuring that staff remain connected, informed, and focused on delivering impact for the communities we serve.
